Double check your entry form for information concerning the location and time of weigh-ins/height ins. It is your responsibility to be on time.

You must bring your music, suits, costumes, and shoes to height ins. Bathing suits and costumes must cover breasts and buttocks. G-strings are not allowed. Heels must be worn in the physique rounds and athletic/dance shoes must be worn during the routine. Bare feet are not allowed. All outfits must be brought to the weigh-in for approval by the head judge.

NUMBERS: Your numbered tag should be placed on your left hip. Place it on the flat plane of your hip to prevent it from twisting or flipping around. This way the judges should be able to see it clearly.

MUSIC: CD only IS ACCEPTABLE. Each CD must contain only one song (music mixing allowed), must be pre-set, and must bear the contestant's name. Each contestant is responsible for picking up his/her music at the Evening Show. The promoter will not accept liability for music left behind. Music that contains profane language or disparaging remarks is not allowed. If such music is used, it will be turned off and you will have to perform your posing with any music available. MUSIC WILL BE CUT OFF AFTER 90 SECONDS. It will be handed in at weigh-ins, so please ensure you have an additional copy for rehearsal.

Bring food as height-ins can be a lengthy process.

NO POSING OIL IS ALLOWED IN ANY ROUND OF FITNESS COMPETITION
COMPETITION ROUNDS
Rounds of Competition

  1. Physique Round
  2. Routine
  3. Physique Round (FINALS)
Physique: 2 piece bathing suit and heels

The Physique round will be judged on overall athleticism with regard to symmetry, firmness and proportion as well as overall physical appearance including hair and skin tone, poise and overall presentation. Remember, this is not a bodybuilding class, competitors exhibiting the vascularity, size and definition often seen in bodybuilding will be marked down. At all times, the judges will be viewing the competitors from the moment the competitor walks on stage, until the moment the competitor walks off stage, with an emphasis on a "healthy, fit, athletic" physique in an attractively presented "Total Package".

The physique will be assessed as to its level of overall muscle tone, achieved through athletic endeavors. The muscle groups should have a round firm appearance with a small amount of body fat. The physique should neither be excessively muscular nor excessively lean and should be free from deep muscle separation and or striations. Physiques that are considered either too muscular or too lean may be marked down.

The assessment will also take into consideration the tightness and tone of the skin. The skin tone should be smooth and healthy in appearance and without cellulite. The face, hair and makeup should complement the "total package" presented by the athlete.
Routine: BOTH PREJUDGE AND FINALS

Each athlete will present a fitness routine set to music of their choice of up to 90 seconds. You may use less than 90 seconds. Bring your music to the weigh-ins. The CD should contain only the music for the routine.

The athlete will be judged on the entire routine from the moment the athlete walks on stage until the moment the athlete walks off stage. The judges will be looking for a well-choreographed and creative routine performed at a high tempo/speed.

There are NO required moves for the routine round. However, the following moves are extremely common amongst competitors:

* Sideways splits

* Front splits

* One arm push-up

* V-split presshold

* Straight leg press hold

* High leg kick to the front with hold

Although compulsory movements are not a requirement, the routine should include elements of STRENGTH, FLEXIBILITY and SPEED.

  1. Elements of STRENGTH: for example: straddle holds, leg extensions and one-arm push ups. Please note that gymnastic movements such as front and back flips, handsprings and cartwheels are not considered strength elements).
  2. Elements of FLEXIBILITY: for example: high kicks, front splits, and/or side splits.
  3. The SPEED or tempo of the routine demonstrates a degree of cardiovascular fitness, stamina and endurance.
There is a "showmanship" which competitors bring to a fitness routine that is unique to them. This is their personality, charisma, stage presence and charm, as well as a natural rhythm. The judges will take these components into consideration when determining the final placing of the competitor. Finals

In this round, the athletes will perform their fitness routine, as in the prejudging. This part of the round is not scored.

The athletes are brought back on stage, in numerical order and in a single line, wearing a bikini and high heels. This part of the round is scored. This round is judged using the same assessment as in prejudging.
Judging Results

If you wish to approach the judges, please do so after the show is over, or at the conclusion of the evening finals. The judges at the night show are also judging for the various overall awards so make sure your class has finished. You can also contact the head judge or the Alberta Bodybuilding Association for information regarding scores, results, etc.
Sportsmanship

This requires that an athlete conduct himself in a manner which will reflect favorably on the sport of bodybuilding. Any conduct contrary to that effect is discouraged, and depending on the severity of such conduct, can lead to suspension from competition. Such conduct includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Making disparaging remarks concerning any ABBA official, judge or fellow athletes in the venue location.
  2. Making disparaging gestures while on stage.
  3. Smashing, breaking or throwing an award, damaging or vandalizing the contest venue.
  4. Any conduct which demeans you, your fellow athletes, judges or officials.
Competition can be a source of great personal triumph. There are no guarantees. The nature of the competition requires "risk taking". Sometimes you may wind up being very disappointed because you did not do as well as you wanted to, or as well as you thought you deserved. Whatever happens, leave the audience with the impression that you are a gracious competitor, that you have dignity and class. The way that you present yourself and take your placement will be remembered long after people remember what place you took. SUIT SELECTION

  • Competitors will compete in a two-piece suit and fitness routine suit of their choice. The bottom of the suit must be V-shaped. No thongs are permitted. Competitors can compete in an off the rack suit. All swimsuits must be in good taste.
  • Competitors must wear high heels, no restrictions.
  • Competitors may wear jewelry.
  • Choose velvet over any other material type. It's forgiving and hides competition tan well.
  • Get your suit padded, even if you have implants, it adds to the overall shape.
  • Ensure it has an underwire or something in the design that accentuates the bust
  • Choose a rhinestone pattern that is flattering. Remember to emphasis shape when thinking of your design pattern.
  • The "v" on the bottom should fall just above the butt checks.
  • The outside of the top under the arm, should end where the chest line falls.
  • Suits and costumes must cover breasts and buttocks.
  • G-strings are not allowed.
  • Competitors may dress as they deem appropriate in order to perform their routines. No props are allowed.
  • The color and style of the bikini shall be left to the competitor's discretion.
  • The bikini bottom must cover a minimum of one-half of the buttocks during the whole time of the lineup and comparisons.

SHOES

  • Heels must be worn in the physique rounds and athletic/dance shoes must be worn during the routine. Bare feet are not allowed.
  • The color and style of the high-heels shall be left to the competitor's discretion.
  • There are no rules stating that shoes with ankle straps cannot be worn however, keep in mind this style of shoe flatters very few women as it makes the leg look cut off and short.
